@ Robert Spink Sorry Lad. But if you read what I posted a week ago it explains why. It is sometimes said that as we age some of us go into our ‘second childhood‘.. I don’t know about that, but as I get older I must admit to being a bit short of grey matter.. Noticing the ever increasing amount of TV and Press adverts by the number of money -lenders, I have also wondered why the government has outlawed any who offer cash at the door. Until now I have also held the view, which I must now accept as being a mistake, that those in authority who impose the law had some sympathy with those who fall into the trap of borrowing from such people. Wherever I got that idea from is the reason for suspecting my marbles. But after extending my thoughts further, I suddenly realised that the ‘bone of contention’ does not derive from sympathy for the many unfortunates who go deeper into to debt by so doing; but merely the fact that there is no check on the profits made by what we are informed are shady people; e.g. back-street lenders and doorstep sharks as they are often called. However the penny ‘suddenly dropped‘. when I realised it has everything to do with there being no official check on such transactions, and that the Revenue, and thus the government suffers loss of revenue. And there was I giving the powers that be the benefit of the doubt. I must be getting dafter. Meanwhile I can still definitely impart one piece of ‘pukka’ knowledge: Never lend money; especially to relations.
