Robin #VanPersie proved the difference for United with a superb hat-trick when they defeated Olympiacos 3-0 to progress into the quarterfinals of the #ChampionsLeague, while Borussia Dortmund joined them despite a home loss to Zenit St. Petersburg. On a thrilling night at Old Trafford, #ManchesterUnited bounced back from their thrashing at the hands of Liverpool, when they overturned a 2-0 deficit against Greek champions Olympiacos. Van Persie opened the scoring in the 25th minute when he converted a penalty after being brought down in the area. Shortly before the half the Dutchman brought the tie level with a second, #Giggs providing a long ball down the right for #Rooney who crossed in low for Van Persie to fire home his second. Van Persie completed a remarkable comeback and a European hat-trick, when he scored from a free kick 5 minutes into the second half to take the aggregate score to 3-2. In a tense second half, Olympiacos threw everybody forward in search of the winning goal but to no avail, as the Premiership Champions held on to join Chelsea in the last 8, and in the process relieved the pressure on under fire manager David Moyes. In Germany, Dortmund lost 2-1 on the night however thanks to a first leg advantage advanced 5-4 on aggregate at the expense of Zenit St. Petersburg.
