Robin WIlliams is dead of depression. He was a goddamned comedy hero. Major depression is a real, serious thing. It is a disease and we need to talk about it more and remove the stigma so people can get help. I think the reason this hits so close to home is that Williams succumbed to something lots of us live with everyday. Its scary. My flavor of major depression does include occasional suicidal ideation, its an unpleasant way to live. When you hear that a hero of yours hasnt been able to cope with it, what does that say for the rest of us? Do we stand a chance? Heres WIlliams, 1978, one full hour of standup.
