Robin Williams is dead, and the circumstances surrounding his passing appear to be tragic. That said, I cant bring myself to feel legitimately sad. Not quite sure what it is, but Im tired of being told to grieve over people I dont know personally. Dont get me wrong, the man did some meaningful work in terms of his dramatic interpretation of the human condition... and he also made a lot of people laugh. These are admirable things, but they dont necessarily constitute a personal relationship with the audience- and I suspect this was precisely at the heart of his struggle with depression. Performing in drama and comedy can be therapeutic, but nothing can replace loving, committed, grown-up relationships. I see my wife and children, and think to myself, Everything in the world that truly matters is right here. #familyfirst #liveforfamily #dieforfamily
