Rock on - Saturday night at the Hot Spot - Nov 8 Yep, its the 1969 album that did indeed bend minds, push pelvises and melt speakers, Electric Ladyland being the third and final album from The Jimi Hendrix Experience. It was Jimi flying solo, shaking off his managers grip and an outside producer. That it should be a sprawling double album seemed inevitable, given that Hendrix was at the height of his powers. That it should prove a great big sonic melting pot of psychedelia, soul, power pop, English folk, blues and whatever-youre-having-yourself meant this daringly diverse album took many by surprise. And it still does. For their 39th album, The Universal Funk Orchestra knew they needed someone mighty special to fill Jimis mocassins - and they found that ridiculously-talented guitar player in Brian Meakin, Also joining UFO for the night is Brians brother, the multi-instrumentalist and all-round huggable guy, Terry Meakin. Add drummer Pablo Buerno, and youve got yourself a hungry, genre-hopping, finger-licking trio. Once again. First outing for Electric Ladyland will be at the new Hot Spot Music Club in sunny Greystones. Doors are 9pm, math rockers Birds will be on at 9.30pm, and UFO will be gracing you with their presence at 10.20pm. Admission is €7, with advance tickets just €5 - available from La Touche Vintage in the town, or you can call 087 2917519.
