Roland Vinluan a retired general is my cousin. In 1991 when he was Airforce Base Commander of Mactan, my late sister Jean Claire and I together with the IPAG performed in Mactan where we were hosted by the Air Force. How music connects. It is not often a combo player of the rock-and-roll genre shifts career, becomes a top Filipino pilot, a Base Commander, and a General, but continues to be emotionally attached to music even after retirement. I have a similar story. Before teaching, I too played in the combo as keyboardist-vocalist- arranger and after graduation had the chance to work abroad and earn US$400. a month (which in 1977 was big bucks then). But before I could be recruited by the nightclub industry, and after agonizing, I decided to teach instead starting with a measly P600. salary per month. Roland produced this tribute DVD, saluting his friends who have made music a part of their/our lives. Some pictures show us and Jean Claire with the general who hosted us in his Air Force base. (Disclosure: My fathers family is Pangasinense, or popularly Pangalatok. Besides being a musically-inclined family - all of us play the piano as dictated by our elders - we have politicians, generals, and artists in our clan. Another general, Former MSU President Ricardo Fernandez de Leon, is a cousin, and his continued service to the MSU would have catapulted the university to greater heights.)
