Romanias Parliament Palace is the worlds largest civilian building and its construction was ordered by Communist leader Nicolae Ceaușescu who was later executed in a public square. It is said that some 20,000 workers toiled in 24-hour shifts, seven days a week, to build the extravagant Palace for which Ceausescu had to take on enormous foreign debts.
