Romans 12:12 “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Do you often get presented with a random bible verse from anyone and told, “You should look it up?” Of course, just like me, I’m often interested to research any biblical verse, but I get side tracked with the hustle and business of my life, both being in the Navy and running Bands For Arms. There would be always something that would get in the way of researching that verse for me, until I was presented with Romans 12:12, which, last night, I researched while on watch. Reflecting on this verse, though simple as it may be, there’s a lot of emphasis with such a short verse in relation to my life, or anybody’s lifestyle. The truth is that many of us get caught up in the “fast food” mentality of today’s world. We expect to get exactly what we want, how we want it, and when we want it. It truly has become the standard by which many live their lives. In Romans 12:12, we are told to “Be joyful in hope…”. Joy in hope? That definitely doesn’t sound easy. After all, hope means that something we are expecting hasn’t come yet. How can I be joyful when the very thing I am expecting and wanting hasn’t come, especially if I am suffering in this mortal life? That’s where faith comes in. If you don’t have that confident hope today, tomorrow, or next week, don’t give up on God. He’s there to listen and He’s there to guide, but more importantly, He’s there to give His unconditional love to you. Get on your knees and pray your heart out to God above in Heaven. Don’t let a fast food attitude drive your prayer life. I have come to accept and realize that in my fast paced life, I am easily distracted away from God. I deter easily when emotional issues come into my life and it is easy to forget that others walking faithfully beside me, hold me accountable and are there to pray for me when I least expect it. Lay down a prideful heart and humble yourself before God. I accept that I am guilty and forget, but I am blessed that others uphold my heart to the fullest before God when in need.
