Ronald Reagan was the first President that I served under. And - TopicsExpress

Ronald Reagan was the first President that I served under. And growing up during the 70s I realized that we, America, had lost something. So young, I didnt know what that something was, but even I was aware of it. And as a child I supported President Reagans pledge to return America to her former greatness. Listening to his speech reminded me of why I chose to serve my country, why I chose to be a part of something greater than just me. I have stood on the manicured lawns amongst the sea of white headstones at Arlington National Cemetery. And I have paid my respects to friends who rest there. It is a place of great power. And as President Reagan says, it represents but a small portion of the price that we have paid for the freedom that we enjoy. Those who do not believe in American Exceptionalism, that is your right, but you have only to walk amongst those headstones to understand why we believe this. We will not stop to count the cost when our homeland, our Freedom, or our allies are threatened. We are a diverse, arrogant, generous, and at times self-indulgent people. Be you Christian, Jew, Muslim, Buddhist, or Athiest, you are American, and you have a history and a national legacy to be proud of. We may fight amongst ourselves from time to time, but we all, every one of us can look to Old Glory and know that we are all a part of something greater than our individual selves. Celebrate this great nation, and the values and ideals that it stands for. God Bless America!!!
