Rountree Gallery’s latest show, opened July 30th and features the art of Carole Spelic’ and Tisha Sandberg. An artist reception will be held Sunday, August 3 from 1pm-3pm. The show runs through August 24th Carole Spelic lives in one of those fabulous old stone buildings in downtown Mineral Point, WI, just above the gallery, Green Lantern Studios. Her studio is in another, even older, stone building on the property. Her current sculptural output employs home-made paper mache’. Her primary concerns are regional Native American artifacts (both functional and ceremonial), obsolete writing systems, and the forms of Wisconsin lakes and rivers. Carole also teaches a variety of art classes at UW Platteville. “All of the forms I am working with are made of paper maché, for which I have developed my own mash recipe. The major ingredient is found material - such as office paper, junk mail, old art announcements, and remaindered and reclaimed books.” A wonderful public school education and opportunities available growing up in a college town (DeKalb, Illinois) made a lasting impression on Tisha Sandberg’s creative life. Tisha was Arts and Culture Coordinator at UW-Platteville for two years, coordinating the ArtsBuild program as well as the Sewing and Quilting Expo. She currently works from a home studio high above the Mississippi river in rural Grant County. She teaches and exhibits in a variety of venues throughout the Midwest. “My current art-making involves …Dyed, printed and painted fabric, free-form stitching and beading, combining paper and fabric with found objects, hardware or other materials: I’m open to using just about anything and love finding ways to utilize things that would usually be thrown away.
