Roy Harper in 1974, when i was 16 years old. I met Roy a couple of times in the later 70s at various free festivals in the Yorkshire dales and up on the Lancashire moors. Deeply Vale and Pickup Bank were melting pot places, the likes of which will not be seen again... He really was a gentleman and would play till he couldnt any more, sometimes well over a couple of hours, sometimes even three or four hours, then sit with the audience for the rest of the night enjoying the other acts and having a well earned smoke/rest. He was always on the outside, but oddly enough, he influenced mainstream artists from Fleetwood Mac to Led Zeppelin, who named a song after him...
