Roy Martin DELUSION The Bible says that in the last days there would be a “delusion”. “And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:” 2 Thess 2:11 (KJV) What is a “delusion”? The dictionary defines it as: (1) a belief that is not true : a false idea, (2) a persistent false psychotic belief regarding the self or persons or objects outside the self that is maintained despite indisputable evidence to the contrary; also : the abnormal state marked by such beliefs When mentioning the text, “And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion…” doesn’t mean God, Himself, will cause anyone to be “deluded” but that He WOULD BE the cause of those who are deluded. To fully appreciate what is being said, it helps to read the verses which lead to that text: “3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? 6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.” 2 Thess 2:3-10 (KJV) Students of the Bible know this to be referring to the “Antichrist”. Serious students of the Bible who study prophecy are fully aware this Antichrist is the “papacy”. Not necessarily a particular pope but the system itself. What Paul saw in his day, during what is called the “Apostolic Days” of the early church was corruption. Satan was not satisfied how Christ’s Church was moving along, so he, satan, using those who were considered leaders of the church to adopt false beliefs brought in from it’s not too long ago held cherished pagan beliefs, such as: the immortality of the soul (people go to heaven at death), infant baptism, Sunday-worship, indulgences (paying money to secure those who died a way to heaven), Mariology (the veneration, or holiness of Mary, the mother of Christ), veneration of dead people (saints) votive (burning candles), Justification by Works (beads, sign of the cross, use of so-called “holy” water), just to name a few. This is not an unrealistic consideration when you remember Paul’s last journey was to Rome where he was later beheaded sealing his martyrdom but not after he had spent the last years of his life witnessing to those in leadership positions who would later form the greater group of Christian to be later called, “Catholic” meaning, “universal” church in a time when pagan, later papal Rome was already the dominating power in the world, the last earthly empire. For to say Christ’s Church is “catholic” is not wrong for Christ’s Church is truly “universal” and was intended to be. So, it is no wonder some almost two thousand years later, despite the efforts of the Reformists 400 years ago from our time, the Christian Church is still steeped in these “delusions” whether you’re a Christian (Catholic) or Christian (Protestant). A brother shared with me, “I don’t study much regarding the Catholic Church…” Well, that’s a sad admission when you consider this was Christ’s Church gone bad! Let me be quick to qualify, it’s the system not the people. In other words, the “church” became corrupted except for a few individuals who remained faithful and as a result of their being faithful lost their lives as a result of this corrupt system for a period which is called the “Middle Ages” or better known Scripturally as the “Dark Ages” (Rev. 11) when God’s Word would be shielded from reaching the people until the Reformation in the late 1500’s early 1600, until our time. Christ Himself had a problem with His own church as founded in Rev. 2 & 3! Christ spoke how His Church became “deluded” and “drunken” because of false beliefs creeping into the church which are apparent even until this day when church bells ring and their doors are opened to accept deluded worshipers on Sunday morning! Christ’s also illustrated to John using horses, the four horses of the Apocalypse. Each color represented the phrase of the Christian Church, Rev. 6 (white, red, black and pale.) It explains why Christ returns riding upon the “white” horse again after having been restored to its purity. For those who might think Christ’s Church could never be corrupted, well, just remember there was a bit of corruption in Heaven. Also, remember there was corruption in a perfect place, too, in Eden. It’s not a far-fetch thought to think there would be no corruption in Christ’s Church, Who even chose a “corrupt” disciple! One can be deluded or deceived and no one will fault them but it is when in the second description of the word “deluded” is where the problem exists. It’s when you’ve chosen to accept and continue to live in this delusion thinking it is fine and worsen when you justify it by your defense of the lies which are so deeply embedded and you’re not able to come to an understanding between right and wrong. One of the questions asked when there is need for a criminal trial is, “is the defendant able to understand the seriousness of their case and able to provide assistance to their defense, the attorney?” Knowing the answer will depend whether there will be a trial or not. The same should be asked about Christians today. Are you able to provide capable assistance to your trial attorney for what you have done? The question really at hand is this: Is your trial attorney satan or is it Christ? Now, this is the one time you would wish not to be, “deluded”.
