Royal Family Kids Camp Honored at Du Quoin State Fair The Royal Family Kids Camp in Salem has received the second annual humanitarian award from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services Southern Region. Regional DCFS Administrator Derek Hobson presented the award to Terry, Terri and Ashley Crompton who have run the camp the last six years after initially getting involved under the old directors. Hobson says the Cromptons and those working at the week long camp have made it their mission to help nurture the self-esteem and self-confidence of children who need it most. On an annual basis they raise hundreds of dollars to ensure that our kids get at least one week of camp said Hobson, they come out of that with a sense of belonging...they feel like theyre somebody. Terri Crompton says they have been able to increase the number of camp participants to 70 the past two years. We have an awesome campground with a high rope court that the kids do, theres a swimming pool, they get to swim and tube at the lake. We have a huge birthday party for them every year said Crompton. Crompton says every day starts with a praise and worship service and a Bible Story called Breakfast Club and then they end the evening with Praise and Worship and another Bible story. The camp is for 6 to 11 year old foster children, who graduate in their final year. Crompton notes even if they are adopted, the youth are still involved back each year and many come. The Cromptons count many high school and college students among those who work the week of the camp. The Royal Family Kids Camp is one of 160 around the globe.
