Royal Navy F-35s wont have true Anti-Ship capability! No air launched version of Harpoon or JSM have been ordered to equip the F-35Bs with AShMs. Instead they will be equipped with a pack of small missiles called the SPEAR-3. This tiny 80 kg subsonic missile has a wings and a jet engine which allow it to have a glide and powered flight for a range of 100km. It is similar to the air launched hellfire missile, but with a longer range. 8 missiles can be fitted inside an F-35. Its tiny warhead which is around 15 kg is enough only to cause minor damage to warships and RN seems to like that fact. They hope a salvo of 8 missiles would cause major damage to an enemy warship.
