Royal Thai Police Crackdown On Illegal Dog Meat Trade… News coverage of an announcement earlier this week by the Royal Thai Police regarding increased law enforcement pressure against the illegal dog meat trade. The introduction to the news bulletin indicates that the dog meat trade has become a matter of national policy and that greater cooperation is needed between law enforcement and other governmental agencies in regards suppressing the trade. The Royal Thai Police realize that the issue needs continued and increased hands on involvement from all divisions of the police force. Including highway police, regional police, marine police etc. as well as the department of livestock, department of forestry and the department of consumer protection. Leaders of the trade earn significant illegal incomes from the trade and the money is untaxed. Strong penalties exist under the Money Laundering Act as well as penalties regarding the illegal export, distribution and sale of dog meat arising from export, health and consumer safety laws and regulations.
