Rugby League lost a close and hard game – 18-22 in the Auckland semifinals – we were up 18-16 with just 2 minutes to go. However little mistakes meant we had to defend hard for the last few minutes and Kelston managed to get over our line. Also Kelston Boys High School were good sportsmen and played the game positively. This was probably the best game our boys had played – fast, open running rugby league. The final will be televised on Saturday afternoon at 2.45 between St Pauls and Kelston. The National tournament is in Week 6 at Takanini – so this will be our next focus. At the Awards Breakfast this morning 3 of our team gained recognition, Jamel Hunt was awarded a Warriors Scholarship (NOT a contract!) and was named best player in his position, prop, in the Auckland competition. Wesley Tauti was named best player in his position in Auckland; centre. Koli Oneone also won a Warriors Scholarship – meaning he trains with the Warriors Development Squad over the summer. Phoenix Paeu and Elias Bloomfield are both coaching the team, and Gary Tautalafua is the main fitness trainer – all recent ex-pupils.
