Run NB will be hosting their 5th annual Hall of Fame & Awards Night at McGinnis Landing in Crystal Palace at 6:30 p.m on Saturday November 16th in Dieppe. The feature event of the evening will see Joël Bourgeois, two-time Canadian Olympian from Grande-Digue and his father, the late Paul-Pierre Bourgeois, being inducted into the Run New Brunswick Hall of Fame. The Bourgeois duo will be the 11th and 12th runner to enter into the shrine. They will be joining Joe McGuire from Woodstock, Eunice Phillips from Fredericton, Patty Blanchard from Moncton, Dr. Paula Keating from Miramichi, George Gallant from Shediac, Billy Best from Minto, Jean-Marie Breau from Tracadie-Sheila, Mario Boudreau from Bearsford, Alain Caron from Charlo and Leo Sheehy from Hopewell Cape. Joël Bourgeois, the renowned steeplechase specialist, ran for Canada at the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympics. He was a gold medalist at the 1999 Pan American Games, has been selected over 40 times for national athletics teams and still owns several New Brunswick records. Paul-Pierre Bourgeois also enjoyed a remarkable running career, in the 60-70 and 80’s. Run NB will also be recognizing several runners for their achievements during the 2013 season. Dr.Paula Keating of Miramichi will be receiving her 5th consecutive female runner of the year award while Lee Roy of Bathurst will take home his second consecutive male runner of the year trophy. Keating, who holds the New Brunswick women\s marathon record with a time of 2:47:26 and the 15km record of 56:33, will also serve as guest speaker of the event. Keating is the only female runner in NB to break the three-hour barrier and she has done it 7 times. Maryse Jacob, a 70-year-old runner from Shediac, will receive the inspirational person of the year award. Jacob, a cancer survivor, enjoyed a strong season, running in 19 New Brunswick Running Room Super Series events and finishing first in her age group in all 19. Up-and-coming running awards will go to 14 year old Laura Dickinson of Miramichi and Bryan Thomas of Bathurst. Thomas and Brandon LeBlanc of Riverview will receive $250 educational bursaries. Other award winners will be Brenda Guitard of Saint John (personal achievement), Carvel Crabbe of Saint John (walker of the year) and the Fredericton Marathon (event of the year). Mike Doyle of Saint John will be recognized for his idea of the Tri-City Medallion - distinct medals of the Fredericton Marathon, Marathon by the Sea in Saint John and Moncton\s Legs for Literacy that can be formed into one. Tickets are $30 and include a buffet supper. Tickets are available online at atlanticchip.ca until next Wednesday.
