Rural Electrification Authority ZAMBIA AT 50; ENERGY WEEK PREPS KICK OFF ….as REA joins line sectors in surveying other sources of energy other than hydro only. The Rural Electrification Authority has with other energy sectors begun preparations to commemorate the energy week with a view of providing power throughout the country using readily available and various sources of energy. Energy Regulation Board, ZESCO, Muhanya Solar and Department of Energy under the ministry of mines, energy and water development are the Public and private sectors that have begun making strides in celebrating this year’s energy which starts on Sunday, 13th July, 2014 and ends on 19th July, 2014. Various energy key players including REA will on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th July 2014 be showcasing some of the projects being undertaken in the quest to diversify possible sources of energy in the country at arcades shopping mall in Lusaka. The current possible sources of energy include Biomass (Wood fuel and Charcoal), Hydro Power, Fossil fuels, Solar Energy, Wind Energy, and Geothermal Energy. This year’s energy week THEME is: “Zambia at 50: Diversifying Energy Sources”.
