Rural electric co-ops put out-of-state coal interests ahead of the economic interests of their own co-op members... This article is written about by an Iowan rural electric coop member, but it would be as true for almost any rural electric scenario if you simply inserted the name of your Governor, State and rural electric in place of the ones used in this timely commentary. It has become commonplace for our rural electrics put out-of-state coal interests ahead of the economic interests of their own co-op members. The noise machine from the rural electric public relations firms do nothing but parrot the National Rural Electric Co-operative Associations talking points opposing every step of the federal Clean Power Plan - the single-most effective action our nation can take to grow our economy by expanding clean energy development all across the nation. Its the position of NRECA that the carbon standards that form the backbone of the Clean Power Plan gamble with the economic well-being of future generations and our nations economy. ...followed by the the common, but false, scare tactic that electric bills would significantly increase if we set carbon standards for our nations fleet of existing power plants. Of course the truth, as demonstrated world-over by generation companies who are leading the transition to clean energy, couldnt be farther from the rural electric talking points. Thank you John Cook for speaking truth to this upside down world of fossil fuel antics. ~ And thank YOU Mike Bowman for this insight! desmoinesregister/story/opinion/columnists/iowa-view/2014/12/30/rural-co-ops-cling-past-energy/21035401/
