SA FLOOD WATCH (NO. 4) for parts of the North West and North East Pastoral districts, the Flinders, Mid North, Mount Lofty Ranges, Riverland, Murraylands and Upper South East. Issued at 12:02 pm CDT on Thursday 8 January 2015 By the Bureau of Meteorology, South Australia. This Flood Watch is a heads up for possible future flooding and is NOT a Flood Warning. Weather Situation: A tropical low over the northwest of the Australia combined with an upper trough developing over western parts of South Australia are expected to produce a significant rain band. The rain band will develop over northern parts of the State on Friday, then extend over the ranges and eastern districts on Saturday and Sunday. Rainfall : Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected during the period from Friday through to Sunday and may produce falls of 50-150 mm, with localised higher falls of up to 200 mm possible. The rain is expected to develop in the far northwest Thursday afternoon and extend southeastwards during Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The higher rainfall amounts are expected over the North East Pastoral and Flinders districts, particularly on and about the eastern slopes of the ranges. Flood Risk : The forecast heavy rain may lead to significant widespread flooding during Friday, Saturday, and Sunday over the Pastoral, Flinders, Mid North, Riverland, Murraylands and Upper South East districts. Rainfall may lead to significant stream rises and possible flooding in the Mount Lofty Ranges during Saturday and Sunday. People in the area should monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be prepared should flooding develop. Travellers need to be aware that road conditions may be adversely affected and travel plans may need to be reconsidered. Some communities may become isolated.
