SABBATH, the Jewish day on which labor ceased & rest prevailed, God creted the world in six days & on the seventh day He rested from His labors (Gen.2:1-3), God set apart the day as a day of rest (Gen.2:3), the observing of the Sabbath was peculiar to the Jews & was 1 of the ways to distinguish them from foreigners (Neh.10:31; 13:15), the Israelites 1st observed the Sabbath in the wilderness when God told them to gather enough manna to last 2days (!Exotic.16:23), in the 4th commandment, Moses received instruction to remember the Sabbath, & to keep it Holy, as the day sanctified by God in the days of Creation (Exo.20:8-1; 31:16-18; Deut.5:15), 2 lamps instead of 1 were offered on the Sabbath, & any1 who worked on the Sabbath as put to death (Lev.23:3; Num.15:36; 28:9),the Jews, before the exile in Babylon, were accused of profaning & neglecting the Sabbath (Jer.17:27), after the return to Jerusalem the Jews covenanted to keep the Sabbath, Nehemiah refused to allow traders from Tyre to trade in Jerusalem on the Sabbath (Neh.10:31; 13:15-22), in New Testament times the Pharisees enforced observance of the Sabbath upon the people in such a way as to make man a slave to it, Jesus said the Sabbath was made for man, & not man for Sabbath (Mark.2:27), Paul & companions used that day for teaching the Jews in their synagogues (Acts.13:14; 17:2), the 1st day of the week was the day of worship the disciples of Christ (Acts.20:7; 1 Cor.16:2; Rev.1:20), Amen!
