SAFCA - Media Release 26 July 2014 For immediate Release Mashaba’s appointment is a good start for the repositioning process The South African Football Coaches Association (SAFCA) has welcomed SAFA’s decision to appoint Ephraim Shakes Mashaba as the coach of the Senior Men’s National Team – Bafana Bafana. SAFCA has in the previous week urged SAFA to appoint a local coach to spearhead the process of change that will be fully supported by the country’s Football coaches. SAFCA President Greg Mashilo says he is delighted that the loud and relevant voices of the coaches have been listened to; and thanked SAFA for taking the views of South Africans to into consideration. “The Coaches Association is geared to come up with a strategic plan that will support SAFA’s development construct. We are delighted that we have one of our own in the driving seat, we will jointly kick off the technical reengineering process that will benefit all the National Teams and football at grassroots level”; said Mashilo. SAFCA’s head of Technical Simon Ngomane says Mashaba’s appointment is the beginning of a long journey that will start with a single step. Ngomane says SAFCA will kick off a process with a technical symposium that will be attended by professional and amateur coaches in Johannesburg on the 15th of August 2014. “We welcome Mashaba’s appointment and we pledge to drive the process of change in the country’s football landscape. Our technical symposium next month will craft a framework that will ensure that our country’s football philosophy is understood by all coaches from grassroots to professional level. This decision by SAFA has created an opportunity for the country to search for its soul, and as the custodians of coaching education, we commit ourselves to contribute in making South Africa globally competitive;” commented Ngomane. SAFCA is also calling for the appointment of a local Technical Director to complete the process of refining the technical setup at the highest level.
