SAITH RUVDAS: “EVEN THE GREAT YOGIS CANNOT EXPLAIN.“ __________________________________________ ਜੋਗੀਸਰ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਨਹੀ ਤੁਅ ਗੁਣ ਕਥਨੁ ਅਪਾਰ॥ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੈ ਕਾਰਣੈ ਕਹੁ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਚਮਾਰ॥ जोगीसर पावहि नही तुअ गुण कथनु अपार॥प्रेम भगति कै कारणै कहु रविदास चमार॥ For the readers benefit The following Divine Sabad presented in three languages i.e. in Panjabi, Hindi, and English. To give the world a few gems out of this Treasury of Divine Love. Sublime Doctrines of Faith, Grace, Love, Salvation by mediation. The utmost care is being taken to address the key issues and facts correctly as possible. Let us Stop for a moment, before going further and nourished yourself for years and which will be the main influences in shaping youre thoughts. Let us believe, and in the strength of our belief succeed. The power of faith is one of the marks of the greatness of man, and death gains infinite interest and worth from the fact that it is faiths sublimest adventure. Meet in a focus of faith that becomes the fountain light of all our day, the master light of all our seeing. We must trust something before we can know or do anything. All, the really great things of life and the world are matters of faith. By faith we understand that the worlds have been framed by the word of God, so that what is seen hath not been made out of things which appear. Let us now illustrate this view of Santism, as different in type, origin, and constitution from the other great Religions, by pointing to its position on what I may call a Religious Map of the World. This is the true knowledge of salvation. In The Name of GOD, The Loving, The Merciful, The Observer of The truth. The idols which humans have built and worshipped in place of God, will always continue to be source of trouble in their hearts. The disbelievers serve the devil and devil always desert them. Corruption has appeared in the air on the land in the sea, and affliction is combined with affliction because of what human hands have done; so that God may make humans taste a part of what they have done; and taste the touch of hell; so that the human may remember God; and return to God might purge what is in their heart. Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered. Truth is simple and direct. Direct, extremely direct, it is immediately understood. To understand truth intricate strategies dont need to be used. Untruth is very subtle. Truth is indestructible, and it is one, “THE TRUTH IS ONE—MEN CALL IT BY MANY NAME.” There is but one truth—to know that truth in its entirety to be that truth. Let us now meditate on the idea that truth is Universal, and that no one that no person or body persons, ever has; has now or ever will have; a monopoly of truth. Let us lay aside prejudice and bigotry and with clear eyes perceive the reflection of the sun of the truth in the waters contained in the many earthen jars. I invite you to inhale perfume arising from the flower of Spiritual gardens of Sants, Bhagats and you will be freed from all barriers of separateness. It seems as though our eyes could appreciate new forms and colours in the increasing brightness which we had been unable to perceive before. The Hindu resorts to the temple and the Musalman to the mosque, but Kavir goes to the place where both are known. That in order to seek truth, it is necessary once in the [course of our life to doubt, as far as possible, of all things. As we were at one time children, and as we formed various judgements regarding the objects presented to our senses, when as yet we had not the entire use of our reason, numerous prejudices stand in the way of our arriving at the knowledge of truth; and of these it seems impossible for us to rid ourselves, unless we undertake, once in our lifetime, to doubt of all those things in which we may discover even the smallest suspicion of uncertainty. II. That we ought also to consider as false all that is doubtful. Moreover, it will be useful likewise to esteem as false the things of which we shall be able to doubt, that we may with greater clearness discover what possesses most certainty and is the easiest to know. III. That we ought not meanwhile to make use of doubt in the conduct of life. In the meantime, it is to be observed that we are to avail ourselves of this general doubt only while engaged in the contemplation of truth. For, as far as concerns the conduct of life, we are very frequently obliged to follow opinions merely probable, or even sometimes, though of two courses of action we may not perceive more probability in the one than in the other, to choose one or other, seeing the opportunity of acting would not unfrequently pass away before we could free ourselves from our doubts. IV. Why we may doubt of sensible things Accordingly, since we now only design to apply ourselves to the investigation of truth, we will doubt, first, whether of all the things that have ever fallen under our senses, or which we have ever imagined, any one really exists; in the first place, because we know by experience that the senses sometimes err, and it would be imprudent to trust too much to what has even once deceived us; secondly, because in dreams we perpetually seem to perceive or imagine innumerable objects which have no existence. And to one who has thus resolved upon a general doubt, there appear no marks by which he can with certainty distinguish sleep from the waking state. Global Masters deny and rejected the authority of the Shastras, Veds, Puraans etc. The goal of religion is salvation and that of philosophy is truth. It gives its directions for recognition, consecration, and sacramental dedication, and vice versa, of a human being on his appearance in the world. The introduction of the religion of the Prophet as a permanent factor in the life of India. The Purana and the Koran are mere words; lifting up the curtain, I have seen Satguru Kavir Namdev and Satguru Ruvdas Jio gives utterance to the words of experience; and he knows very well that all other things are untrue. Philosophy in India means the regulation of life. Like most other religions of India, Sants Bhagats, has a unique Philosophy and Religion of their own. It is a new philosophy, it is a new religion. This is no religion of rites and ancestral worship or ceremonies. Benevolence: it is a real, ever fashion for sorrowing humanity. It is a religion that comforts the afflicted, and gives to the soul that peace which the world cannot give, Such is the religion of these Universal, Global and Supreme Sant Bhagats Satgurus. They never had any sympathy with Hindu, Muhammadan intolerance and exclusiveness. Unwillingness to accept views, beliefs, or behavior that differ from ones own. They preached against all exclusiveness, privileges and priestcraft and strongly condemned class, caste, circumcision and idolatry. Dont you be deluded by Restricting Yourself to mere reading and Writing of Scriptures, It is refreshing to turn from such unsatisfying systems. condemnation of various systems and of the self confidence which has given rise to them and the neglect of God dwelling in the heart. The crowds went by the path traversed by the Pandits. The whole world has gone astray by partiality for one’s own system. He who, becoming free from partiality, adores Hari‚ is a wise sage. The great ones are lost in their own greatness; pride peers out through every pore; when they are not familiar with a wise preceptor, all the orders of men are of the Chamar, Camār caste, i. e. the degraded caste of curriers. The Pandits were misled by the study of the Vedas which are based on the Gunas‚ or qualities, and did not know their own nature and their true friend (God). They practice Samdhyā, Tarpana, the six rites and various other such ceremonies. In all the four Yugas Gayatrī has been taught; ask who obtained salvation (Mukti) by it s means. When you are touched by other people, you bathe; tell me who is more degraded than yourselves. Satguru Kavir here condemns the rites, ceremonies and other practices of the Brāhmanas, the pride that is generated in them by these, the contempt in which they hold people of other castes, and also their search of Nirvana, or a condition without any attributes, i. e. the Advaita, or adualistic system which they follow. Satguru Kavir further described; “The beads are of wood, the gods of stone; the Ganges and the Jumna are water; Rama and Krishna are dead; the Vedas are fictitious stories.” A Premier Hinduism. Sant Bhagat religion as the only system adapted to the requirements of the whole human race the only message of salvation intended by God to be gradually pressed upon the acceptance of all His intelligent creature. It is this perception of universal justice (which regards all mankind as one brotherhood and impels man to seek the harmonization of his interest with duty, Purity of motives, holiness of deeds and loveliness of lives are the internal beauties that he prizes most, and values above all. He cannot degrade himself by destroying this internal beauty, for, he is alive to the truth that. The mission of Sants is to preach a religion of love which would unite all castes and creeds. He rejected those features of Hinduism and Islam which were against this spirit, and which were of no importance for the real spiritual welfare of the individual. TO THOSE REGIONS WHERE EVIL SPIRITS DWELL AND UTTER DARKNESS PREVAILS SURELY GO AFTER DEATH ALL SUCH MEN AS DESTROY THE PURITY OF THEIR OWN SOULS He is rather filled with joy at the glorious capabilities of his existence and at the priceless gift of life. The Path of the Masters is different. He who is truly after it will get it. For God created us in His image, and, buried deep in the vilest human being, this image never ceases to shine. Every living man is a temple Purity of heart, humility, self surrender, forgiveness, and the love of God form the sum and substance of it. The campaign for true Religion of Universal peace replace the culture of violence hatred, violence, high and low with human rights equality, social and economic justice, if we and our home earth planet are to survive. Their divine Sabads are so surcharged with emotion and feeling as to permeate the very hearts of the listeners / readers and ennoble them to become one with the sants Bhagats Satguurs in their devotion to God. These divine Sabads give expression to the purest love of God and are mostly revered. universal icon for love and devotion as the only path for Salvation and Liberation. To this day these Sants Bhagats remain a living tradition. What bliss I and you experienced, let the whole universe get it, The sky-high Word of the Sants, if revealed, This resident of the body, let it recognize; The more it gets to it the more the enlightenment. Now days there are hundreds of authors biased against the Sants Bhagats Satgurus Philosophy ideas and work were wrongfully and wilfully misinterpreted by the very men who, while profiting by their wisdom, have with great ingratitude criticised the Sants Bhagats and defamed their names. The authors seems almost blissfully unaware of key recent researches, unaware of key facts, unsupported and outdated claims must be considered an unreliable source for the history of this period. The interpretation has, of course, been made in the light of great care has been taken not to force the interpretation in any manner, but to determine as nearly as possible just what the poet thought on these inevitable questions. To this end special effort has been made to distinguish between the subjective and objective, the personal and impersonal. The Common-sense Philosophy of Causation, Is there any Axiom of Causation? The Relativity of Knowledge, The Emotion of Conviction, What is Death? The Supposed Necessity for Seeking a Solution of Ultimate Metaphysical Problems. If the reader will only retain in his memory, At the beginning and end of a word the correctness with simplicity, and avoids much of that confusion which has been so much complained of on this subject. It is important at this point to avoid so far as possible a familiar misunderstanding. And I may here draw attention to the fact that the religious, these subjects should be thought provoking; and to know that whatever has been may be possible now, should stir them up and fill them with joy. Do they pray in silence, aloud, and in secret, and speak of inspiration, of the guidance of Providence, of the Sant Satguru. Dedicated to the glory of God and his Holy divine Messengers. Intellectual truth is always sure to do its own work. It only wants stating; there are always clear and unbiased minds to be profited by it. It is this belief of mine in the efficacy of the unaided power of intellectual truth that makes me hope that good may be done by efforts like the one of which the following verse is the embodiment. As abstract truth is always best illustrated by examples. When we set ourselves to discover what is meant by a personal God in the minds of those who lay stress upon the importance of this conception of the object of Religion, we found that it is a God with whom a personal relationship is possible for his worshipers. We should really try to be with God and in God all the time, and never be away from Him even for a moment. It is well known to those who are familiar with the writings of and revered and lamented Sant, Bhagat, Satguru. In meditation the real condition of the soul is revealed. Alive Holy Name) which has the power to liberate an individual Soul from the entrapment of Mind (Mann) and Body (Maya) according to the true wisdom of Sant Mat is “Param Purush – Sahib” (Supreme God) Himself. Satguru Kavir describes, if thou desire the Beloved, play with a true guru; If unripe oil-seeds be pressed, neither oil-cake nor oil will be obtained. 3 Here a couplet of Namdev is introduced: 1The humble succeed where the proud fail. 2 Such is the sacrifice that must be made to enable man to play with the saints and share in their bliss. 3 Nothing can be obtained from a false the pseudo gurus instruction. Man searching for God stumbleth like a blind manand recognizeth not the saint; Saith Namdev, how shalt thou obtain God without the mediation of His saints? The following lines of Satguru Ruvdas are here inserted: Forsaking God the diamond yearneth for other gods, Shall not go to heaven, verily Saith Ruvdas. Satguru conclude and explains: “Kavir, if thou embrace a domestic life, act honestly; otherwise abandon the world; But if any one, having abandoned the world, again become entangled with it, great indeed shall be his misfortune.” Lets protect whats preciouses to us. We, thier faithful followers, devoutly accept their teaching, and hope by Divine grace to carry on their mission. Our faith is firm that he works and prays with us from the mansions of the blessed where he has ascended, that his hallowed influences fill us in our attempts to be like him, and that in life, death, and eternity, our relations to him, and to each other, are inseparable in God. PROPHETS / PHILOSOPHERS SPEAK OF GOD: I am a citizen of another kingdom, Metaphorically Satguru Ruvdas Jio explains: “As a well is filled with frogs, which have no knowledge of other countries: So my mind is fascinated by the world, it has no knowledge of this and that side ( = world)” ਰਾਗੁ ਗਉੜੀ ਪੂਰਬੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਜੀਉ ਕੀ ॥ Please read the full verse with translation at the end of this post. Contd-------- The relationship between Sadhu Sat Guru and his Sishya, SIKH, Disciple. In the following Sabad by Satguru Ruvdas Jio, Greater re-emphasis and a particular key point focus must be Centred on the word, “SAGAL BHAWAN.” You will not benefit and it is not profitable to argue any more. The saint deals in holiness and is thus emancipated during life. The repetition of Gods name is superior to all other forms of worship. THE EXISTENCE OF GOD, HIS CHARACTER AND RELATIONS TO HUMANITY: RELIGIOUS DUTIES GROWING OUT OF HUMAN RELATIONS WITH GOD: MORALITY AND OUR RELATIONS WITH EACH OTHER. Let us adore that Divine Sun from Whom glow rays of divine Light and Joy: from Whom all do proceed, in Whom all live anew, to Whom all must return. May He rule our thoughts aspiring to His Sacred Heart. It may serve us as a guide in this way still. To a right-thinking and right-feeling mind, the beauty, the grandeur, the mystery of Nature. It is this same mission which Satguru Ruvdas, Satguru Kavir and Satguru Namdev entrusted to their followers. The kingdom of “BAYGUMPURA” heaven is at their. Heal the sick, raise the mentally dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons; freely ye received, freely give. Let us now go a step further. Efforts have been made to explain, here is an important principle needing consideration here, which is Dead-End Deity, Dead-End God Brahmans distinguishing badge or symbols. The following was addressed to some Brahmans who had attributed Satguru Ruvdass contempt for their religious ceremonies to madness. Where is the image of God in them? Image-worship became a part and parcel of Hinduism. Satguru Ruvdass replied with the following hymn:— Satguru Ruvdas prays for divine favour. “As a pit full of frogs l which know nothing of different countries, So my mind infatuated with evil passions taketh no thought of this world or the next. Lord of all the world, grant me a sight of Thee for a moment; My mind is not clear, O God, and so I cannot understand Thy condition. Take pity on me that my doubts may be dispelled, and teach me right understanding. Even supreme Jogis cannot explain Thine attributes which are beyond expression. The tanner Ruvdas prayeth for Thy love and service.” Summarizing in few sentences. The Universal Crown of truth, Global icon, symbol, banner and insignia of freedom, Gigantic Satguru Ruvdas walking on a double edge naked sword Rhapsodist Satguru Ruvdas Jio: They taught Religious Science, Political, Socio-economics, devotional practice, the repetition of Gods name is superior to all other forms of worship. I have endeavoured to follow the text as closely as possible. In the following sermon, verse Satguru explains the advantages of repeating Gods name. Satguru Ruvdas Jio, showered us with divine nectar and had denounced images, and appealed to the people in their own tongue. Please read the full verse with translation at the end of this post. Contd-------- 3 Names In the thoughts and on the lips of their faithful followers of Satguru Ruvdas Jio, Satguru Kavir Jio, and Satguru Namdev Jio. Let us all Prays for divine favour, Famosity of Sahib Sachay Patshah Satguru Ruvdas Jio is well known from Nanuk Vani. The word SANT Name is frequently used for God. The advantages of repeating Gods name As the night passes before the light of the sun (this) the whole world knows – So, Awakening with Gigantic Global, Universal Supreme Sahib Sachay Patshah Satguru Ruvdas Jio, show us the path way how to connect and be with Universal Core Centre, BAYGUMPURA. Universal philosophy as already demonstrated show the development of the consciousness of freedom on the part of Spirit, and of the consequent realization of that freedom. The highest authority. The Way of the Gigantic, Global, Universal Sant Bhagat Religiouse Reformers, Redeemers: There is a great deal more precious truth in this passage than we can profitably attempt to consider in a single discourse. Lives of Gigantic, Universal and supreme, BHAGATS” SATGURUS” “SANTS” all remind us We can make our lives sublime. A golden opportunity surely! Let golden aims and efforts seize the crisis, and the highest prizes will reward the aspirants. it is some time urged that the description of God conflict with one another. It only shows that our notions are not true. To say that our ideas of God are not true is not to deny the reality of God which our ideas are refer. Our readers probably know the main lines of it as well as we do. What we want to emphasize is that the route is open to us all. We can each grow a soul if we are willing to pay the price. Assuredly it is worth it, for this is really the one and the only victorious life. If you are not, would you not like to become such a master of the situation? It is simpler than you perhaps think, if you will but realize certain fundamental truths and put to work your own better nature. To tell you how, and to direct your efforts is the object of this series of little talks on the use of thought in life forming. The message is crystal clear. Salvation depends on the state of mans heart not on the place of his death. Let no one slander the Saints, because the Saints and the Lord are as one. We never can be holy till we believe in Holy Bhagat Satguru. A first possible explanation points to a self-organising. You must make yourself spiritual, and open to belief, good and harmonious, and not negative, skeptical, then your spiritual part will draw spiritual things, but if you are not open to receive and feel its all fraud, and will not believe it. Remember and love God. This is my way. There is nothing higher or lower. Once you are enlightened, there is nothing higher or lower; there cannot be. If a lotus flower becomes enlightened it will be a lotus flower. Satguru Kavir Jio, is said to have been such a perfect Satguru, Sant, Saint of God that his conversation and poetry were like suns to dispel the darkness of doubt and infidelity. Satguru Namdev Jio, Put an entire stop to the teaching and practice of idolatrous forms of worship. Gods omnipotence In the Society of the Saints, the Lord dwells within the heart. Life gradually draws to a close: Man should practice devotion betimes. Divine manifestations! Of a special kind take place, time, to; time as, the need arises for their appearance; and these special manifestations are marked out from the universal Core Center “Baygumpura.” Eternal and immovable is the City of God and Satguru (Baygumpura) And what is that secret? It lay hidden in the Sabad. Manifestation of God Manifestations of the Supreme, the holiest of the holiest, these manifestations of God in the world in which He shows Himself as divine, coming to help the world that He has made, shining forth in His essential nature. Do not let this knowledge becomes dimmer. By the duty laid upon me by the Master that I serve, by the truth that He has bidden me speak in the ears of men of all the faiths that are in this modern world; by these I must tell You what is true, no matter whether or not you agree with it for the moment; for the truth that is spoken wins submission afterwards, if not at the moment. THE POWER OF TRUTH, MIRACLE AND MYSTERY OF LIFE. _______________________________________ Life is not a competition with others. In its truest sense it is rivalry with our- selves. We should each day seek to break the record of our yesterday. We should seek each day to live stronger, better, truer lives; each day to master some weakness of yesterday; each day to repair past follies; each day to surpass ourselves. And this is but progress. And individual, conscious progress, progress unending and unlimited, is the one great thing that differentiate man from all the other animals. Then we will care naught for the pretty, useless decorations of society *s approval on the scabbard. For us it will be enough to know that the blade of our purpose is kept ever keen and sharp for the defence of right and truth, never to wrong the rights of others, but ever to right the wrongs of ourselves and those around us. The world spends too much time, money and energy on the scabbard of life; too little on the sword. The scabbard represents outside show, vanity and display; the sword, intrinsic worth. The scabbard is ever the semblance; the sword the reality. The scabbard is the temporal; the sword is the eternal. The scabbard is the body; the sword is the soul. The scab- bard typifies the material side of life; the sword the true, the spiritual, the ideal. The man who does not dare follow his own convictions, but who lives in terror of what society will say, falling prostrate before the golden calf of public opinion, is living an empty life of mere show. He is sacrificing his individuality, his divine right to live his life in harmony with his own high ideals, to a cowardly, to a dying fear of the world. He is not a voice, with the strong note of individual purpose; he is but the thin echo of the voice of thou- sands. He is not brightening, sharpening and using the sword of his life in true warfare; he is lazily ornamenting a use- less scabbard with the hieroglyphics of his folly. The man who lives beyond his means, who mortgages his future for his present, who is generous before he is just, who is sacrificing everything to keep up with the procession of his superiors, is really losing much of life. He, too, is decorating the scabbard, and letting the sword rust in its sheath. They passed the invisible power, to pen their thoughts thereon for the benefit of others, realizing that they have been of unlimited benefit to himself. Here is a power for good that ought not to be lost. Impelled as we believe by the Spirit of God to write, and encouraged so to do by this extract from the pen of one whom from personal acquaintance we regard as one of the most eminent sants, Bhagats we ever come across, we write, praying that the same blessed Spirit which we trust prompts us, may make our words a blessing to the hearts, and mould the lives of many readers into the image of Him who created them. Though entire sanctification is a prominent part, yet it will be observed it is only one feature of our subject. We must be willing to serve the Sant Satguru with all our heart, mind and strength, keeping his commandments even- unto the end. Upon these laws, salvation is based, and the promised blessings are unto all men. These conditions arc not severe, nor grievous, and are within the power of the weakest of the weak, if they will only place their trust in their Redeemer. All who repent and obey these laws, will be redeemed and saved from the sins of the world; but they who refuse and repent not, will have to suffer for their own sins. We have endeavoured to trace Salvation to the Uttermost to its bearings upon all, high and low, rich and poor, noble and ignoble, young and old, the moderate and immoderate sinner. To all such, in the name of God, we humbly commend our work. If it pleased God in his infinite mercy to order otherwise. Glory! Glory! To His name. Seek the truth in yourself and the truth will set you free. Such facts prove conclusively the democratic character of the order and its freedom from the caste prejudices of Hinduism. The future religion of the world will be the common religion of all nations. One Religion shall be acknowledged by all men; one God shall be worshipped throughout the length and breadth of the world; the same spirit of faith and love shall pervade all hearts; all nations shall dwell together in the Fathers house; yet each shall have its own peculiar and free mode of action. There shall, in short, be unity of spirit, but diversity of forms; one body, but different limbs; one vast community with members laboring in different ways, and according to their respective resources and peculiar tastes, to advance their common cause, The Fatherhood of God and the Brotherhood of Man. This world is like a stage where men perform many parts under various disguises. They do not like to take off the mask, unless they have played for some time. Let them play for a while, and then they will leave off the mask of their own accord. Those who seek for fame are under delusion. They forget that everything is ordained by the Great Disposer of all things, the Supreme Being, and that all is due to the Lord and to no one else. It is the wise who say always, It is Thou, It is Thou, O Lord, but the ignorant and the deluded say, It is I, It is I.” Many are the names of God and infinite the forms that lead us to know Him. In what so- ever name or form you desire to call Him, in that very form and name you will see Him. As one can ascend to the top of a house by means of a ladder or a bamboo or a staircase or a rope, so divers are the ways and means to approach God, and every religion in the world shows One of these ways. He who tries to give an idea of God by mere book learning, is like the man who tries to give an idea of Kasi (Benares) by means of a map or picture. God is in all men but all men are not in God: that is the reason why they suffer. The magnetic needle always points towards the North, and hence it is that the sailing vessel does not lose her course. So long as the heart of man is directed towards God, he cannot be lost in the. Ocean of worldliness a balance. The world soon places its enjoyments and pleasures in one scale, and the spirits attractions on the other; and if the intellect chooses the world, the worldly scale becomes heavy and gravitates towards the earth. But if it chooses the spirit, the spiritual scale gravitates towards God. The soul reincarnates in a body of which it was thinking just before its last departure from this world. Devotional practices may therefore be seen to be very necessary. When by constant practice no worldly ideas arise in the mind, then the God-idea alone fills the soul and does not leave it even when on the brink of eternity. Egoism. Egoism is like a cloud that keeps God hidden from our sight. If by the mercy of the Guru egoism vanishes, God is seen in His full glory. If one acquires the conviction that everything is done by Gods will, that one is only the tool in the hands of God, then is one free even in this life. Thou doest Thy work, they say, I do it! Ponder deep and thou shalt know that there is no such thing as I. As by continually peeling off the skin of an onion, so on analyzing the ego it will be found that there is not any real entity corresponding to the ego. The ultimate result of all such analysis is God. When egoism drops away Divinity manifests itself If one ponders over the I, and tries to find out what it is, one sees it is only a word which denotes egoism. It is extremely difficult to shake off. Then one says, You wicked *I, if you will not go by any means, remain as the servant of God. This is called the ripe I. If you feel proud, feel so in the thought that you are the servant of God. On Meditation If you have a mind to live unattached from the world, you should first practice devotion in solitude for some time, say a year, or six months, or a month, or at least twelve days. During the period of retirement you should meditate constantly upon God and pray to Him for Divine Love. You should revolve in your mind the thought that there is nothing in the world that you may call your own; those whom you think your own will pass away in no time. God is really your own. He is your AII-in-AII. How to obtain Him should be your only concern. The Truly Religious The truly religious man is he who does not commit any sin even when he is alone, because God sees him, though no man may see him. He who can resist the temptation of lust and gold in a lonely place unobserved by any man through the fear that God sees him, and who through such fear does not even think an evil thought, is truly a religious man. But he who practices religion for the sake of show and through the fear of public opinion has no religion in him. That man, who living in the midst of the temptations of the world attains perfection, is the true hero. Satguru Namdev, Satguru Ruvdas and Satguru Kavir, raises crucial questions about the social order, and explained: A family that has a true follower of the Lord Is neither high caste nor low caste, lordly or poor. Their perception of Brahmins and others who set store by standard Hindu texts and rituals is scarcely complimentary, and he has contempt for all who denigrate people belonging to other sectors of society than their own. One can see for oneself how ignorant we are when we look for the Lord in man made shrines instead of the temple made by God himself to reside in. The saints advise us, therefore, that if we want to realize God, we must look for him within ourselves and nowhere else. Naturally the question now arises that if God is within our own body, which is the true temple of God, why do we not see him? What is the obstacle, and how can it be removed? The obvious reply is that it is our desires and wishes, our love and attachment for the world and its objects, that generate the love and attachment in us. Naturally, it is our own mind. Whatever karma the mind impels us to do, the consequences have to be suffered by the soul also, for the mind and soul are knotted together. We know that water in the clouds is pure, but when it falls on the ground as rain, it gathers all kinds of impurities. The condition of our soul is no way different from that of rainwater. It is of the same essence as God himself, but having become subservient to the mind, it has gathered dirt and dross and lost its purity. As long as the soul does not free itself from the clutches of the mind, it cannot know its source. All genuine seekers realize the importance of controlling and subduing the mind. To that end they try diverse methods and techniques. Some resort to austerities and repetition of holy names, some indulge in charitable acts, others leave their Hearths and homes and seek the seclusion of mountains and forests. There are still others who make endless rounds of temples, mosques, churches, gurdwaras, and devote themselves to the study of scriptures and sacred books and listen to learned discourses. All these functions are solely directed to one end, namely, to control the mind. The truth, however, is that the cravings and desires of the mind have only been suppressed for a while; they have not disappeared, nor have they been conquered. The more we suppress a thing, the more it rebounds and reacts. “If we long for permanent peace and happiness and freedom from the laws of karma, we must seek the Lord within. Our soul is of the essence of the Lord. ‘Just as oil is in sesame seeds,’ says Kavir, ‘and fire is in flint, so does he reside in your body, the Lord whom you seek day and night.’ When realization comes, then all these questions are settled. He who has seen God can tell exactly what He is like. As Satguru Kavir said: God with form is my Mother, God without form is my Father. Whom shall I blame, whom shall I praise? The balance is even. He is with form, yet He is formless. He is personal, yet He is impersonal; and who can say what other aspects He may have I. Are we altogether aware that in modern times there have been two profoundly great and immeasurably important revelations of God? And these two revelations are so correlated as to make them singularly adapted to the peculiar needs of the new civilization. When suddenly there came an outburst of life and power, of hope and love — something unique in the history of the world. There had been a new disclosure of God. The conception of the Ruler of the universe not as an infinite Emperor, but as a loving Father, and the idea of a human brotherhood, bound together by a love that suffered long and was kind, that sought not her own, that thought no evil, that hoped all things and endured all things — the conception of such love, at once divine and human. THE IMPORTANCE OF SATSANG, THE INFLUENCE OF COMPANY OF HOLY ________________________________________ It is a law of nature that things assume good or bad qualities and take different shapes owing to different association. Man certainly no exception to it. In the holy association of Saints he slowly and gradually imbeds Saintly qualities and strives for God realization. Without the Satsang, company of the Holy reverend Saints there can be no upsurge of spiritual disposition, and without it no love and devotion for God can arise, impurity will remain. If the impurity remains soul will not be free from recycle of birth. Seek the company of sants and evolve. SATSANG with sants is unfailing in its results the four castes — the Kh’shaatriyas, Brahmins, Soodras and Vaishyas — are equal in respect to the teachings One may read all the books of the Vedas, the Bible, the Simritees and the Shaastras, but they will not bring liberation. Millions of cleansing baths at sacred shrines of pilgrimage only fill the mortal with filth in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga. One, who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, becomes spotlessly pure. There are four castes: Brahmin, Kh’shaatriya, Soodra and Vaishya, and there are four stages of life. One, who meditates on the Lord, is the most distinguished and renowned. The poor castor oil plant, growing near the sandalwood tree, becomes fragrant; in the same way, the sinner, associating with the Saints. Page 747 Guru Granth Ji, On Behalf of Mahla Pehla Mahla Panjva Ji, expalins: “ No one is as great as the Saints. The Bhagats are in harmony; He is in the water, the land, and the sky. Millions of sinners have been saved in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; the Messenger of Death does not even approach them. One who practices the Teachings of the Saints, by Guru’s Grace, is carried across. One may read all the books of the Vedas, the Bible, the Simritees and the Shaastras, but they will not bring liberation.” SATGURU RUVDAS AND THE FOUR VARANS ______________________________________ Four Varans who flocked to his divine forecourt for his holy blessing i.e.Kshatriyas, Brahmins, Soodras and Vaisyas and Reverenced by the world. Brahmins, Kshatriyas and Vaisyas, these were the three twice-born orders, belonging to the original Aryan stock, who had practically the same rights and privileges. The position which caste occupies in the early stages of Hinduism is comparatively insignificant, but from the time when Manu wrote his Laws down to the present age, the place which it fills is of the greatest possible importance. On Page 733 Guru Granth Ji, On behalf of Sri Nanuk Ji, Mahla Pehla, Mahla Panjva Ji, explains: Hear the ineffable word of God, my brethren, by which all anxiety, pain, and hunger are removed. Holy men are not led off in triumph by Death; they become insensibly blended with God. ”The glory of the Holy people is not known to the Vedas. They can describe only what they have heard. The God-conscious being cannot be described in words. The God-conscious being is the Lord and Master of all. Kavir, Death will not disgrace mine understanding since I have repeated the name of the Cherisher who created him. They are the only divine and holy: “All bows in reverence to Him. In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, Nanak has obtained understanding; singing the Kirtan of the Lords Praises is his only support. It eradicates pride from the mind.” There is very important reason why Nanak Bani Adore, Admire and praise the Holy reverend Satguru Kavir, Satguru Sain, Satguru Ruvdas and Satguru Namdev in the following sacred words. “They attain great glory, and the most sublime honour.” They attain the supreme status. They attain the supreme state of Nirvana. They attain the immortal status and eradicate their self-conceit; how rare is that person, who contemplates spiritual wisdom. Attuned to the Naam, they attain Sidh Gosht— conversation with the Siddhas. Attuned to the Naam, they practice intense meditation forever. Attuned to the Naam, they live the true and excellent lifestyle. They attain the fourth state, and are liberated. Those who meditate on it are all emancipated; they attain the eternal and unchanging home. I weed out the fungi that grew in the Minds of those discriminatory people. I speak reality they dont believe me these unreal pandits. In the above Sermon I have endeavoured to point out a test or means of self-examination, by the use of which we may discover how far this has been the case with us, and how far our habitual opinions. Vagaries of the mind. The ill directed mind is the source of all our troubles. Truth is simple and direct. Direct, extremely direct, it is immediately understood. To understand truth intricate strategies dont need to be used. Untruth is very subtle. There are two ways of gaining knowledge. One the way of study, by which we may learn what other people know and have written down for the instruction of those who know not. The second way is by developing within ourselves the nature which is knowledge, the nature which can reproduce within itself all to which it turns its attention, as the eye reflects the object at which it looks. Now the second way is the better, though by far the more difficult. We must prepare ourselves for it b)r treading the first. We must develop and train our intelligence by learning that which is written by men wiser than ourselves: then later in life, we may pass onward into the second path, and evolve the inner nature till it can see and know, and need seek no aid from books. The philosophy of religion to-day is recognising these marks of religion more widely than was the case a generation ago, and is acknowledging their primary importance It is aware that the increased knowledge of the extent and variety of* the ramifications of religion in the history of a race gives confirmatory evidence for the fact of religious experience and material for study of the experience as it takes different forms. But it is also aware that all demonstrations of the utility of religion in the moral and social sphere of life do but exhibit religion at work, and not disclose the thing itself, and that this is true also of the assistance which religious faith gives to our endeavour to see rationality in the scheme of the universe. And it therefore sets as its problems, What fundamentally is the soul of man? and, What is it for a soul to be truly in communion with God? Religion must be understood from within before it can be estimated from without. And, prior to all analysis, whatever enters into any creed is proved by that very fact to be significant for religion as such. Now every creed has its world-view; and this world-view, if true at all, must possess a higher kind of truth than can be claimed for the postulates of ordinary knowledge. If the existence of God were merely a postulate, it could only correct and enrich our conception of the world, but could not as it actually does raise it to a higher plane. For the concept of God cannot, by its very meaning, consent to occupy an ancillary position. Once accepted, the world must be defined in terms of God, not God in terms of the world. A consciousness of the existence; of the reality of things lies at the basis of all knowledge ; without such a conviction it would be impossible to be interested in, or to be stimulated to the acquirement of any knowledge. Let a universal skepticism but prevail, let the mind be in doubt as to the reality of self, or of the world, or of God, and, as a matter of course, it must be paralysed. Doubt as to absolute reality and truth, is inactivity, mental stagnation, and death. Consciousness carries with it absolute certainty. I am absolutely certain that I am, because I am conscious of it. I know, or am certain, that there is something external to myself — that the whole world of nature is a reality, because I am conscious of it. In both cases, the consciousness is immediate and necessary, differing only in the modes of verification. In the latter case, the verification, though not so immediate, is just as satisfactory, being through the senses. Introspection, by itself, could never bring us to the intellectual fact of self-consciousness, nor could the report of the senses bring with it the consciousness of nature; both of them must be preceded by an intellectual condition. Psychological observation and physical observation are simply the instrumentalities which, logically speaking, a previously existing mental status uses for its information and satisfaction. The knowledge of the / is in the first place limited and confused ; self-consciousness is not satisfied with such ignorance, but seeks a clear, extended, and entire knowledge of itself. Until this self-knowledge becomes complete, self-consciousness will not be satisfied. Not until I know myself as I am known by the Omniscient, will my yearnings be quenched. CONTEXTUALIZING THE SANTS BHAGATS SATGURUS ________________________________________________ The Universal Crown Rhapsodist Satguru Kavir. The repetition of Gods name is superior to all other forms of worship. Satguru Kavir explains: “Our way is opposite to that of the Vadas and of the Koran; that is, we have nothing to do either with Muselmans or Hindus. The lives of the saints have been a mystery to the non-religious. Our picture has been drawn from the Point of view that play represents a characteristic attitude of mind, a phase of which we find in religion. They cannot impose any of the past on us any more. A revival of dead institutions is impossible. The older ideals have been played out, and it is folly appealing any more. The religions that look backward have no hope beyond them selves. In the various religious Scriptures of the world, as in other things, there is a survival of the fittest; and that will survive which speaks most closely, not so much to the intellect as to the conscience and the heart. God Himself is weaving, Bringing out the world s dark mystery, In the light of faith and history; and as web and woof diminish, comes the grand and glorious finish, when begin the Golden Ages, Long foretold by seers and saints. We must picture Saint and Satguru in our minds and eyes. It is principally this ineradicable prejudice which has raised such an insurmountable barrier between them and the rest of mankind. Obliged by their religious tenets to hold themselves aloof from every one who does not share their beliefs, they can never, under any circumstances, be on such friendly or confidential terms with any stranger as would arise from feelings of mutual esteem and respect. It is undoubtedly from the Brahmins that the other Hindus have picked up this absurd prejudice, for it is in strongest force amongst them (the Brahmins). The predominating idea in their general conduct, and in their every action in life, is what they call cleanness; and it is the enormous amount of care that they take to keep themselves ‘clean, to prevent any sort or kind of defilement, and to purify themselves from any uncleanness that they may have contracted, which gives them their ascendency over other castes. It is but folly to ask what the caste of a saint may be. I have no wish to renew any bitter controversy. The body is false, God alone is true. In the above Sermon I have endeavoured to point out a test or means of self-examination, by the use of which we may discover how far this has been the case with us, and how far our habitual opinions. Vagaries of the mind, The ill directed mind is the source of all our troubles. The connection of the spirits with the holy being (God) is like the connection of the billows with the ocean, or that of spark. What is hell and what heaven, the wretched places? Exclaims Kavir one of Nanuk’s predecessors;the saints have rejected them both. God and Kavir have become one; no one can distinguish between them. Says Nanuk. Salvation is to be obtained by meditation on God, with sufficient attention and iteration, and by a life spent in conformity with the Guru s teachings. Individual consciousness then ceases, and there is no further pain or misery. “Though two, are one, as bubbles which arise in water are again blended with it.” Or the blending of the light of the soul with the light of God. As water blending with water: As water blends with water, when two streams their waves unite, the light of human life doth blend With God s celestial light. No transmigrations then await The weary human soul; It hath attained its resting For the readers benefit The following Divine Sabad presented in three languages i.e. in Panjabi, Hindi, and English on Page 346 Guru Granth Ji, Satguru Ruvdas Jio explains: The advantages of repeating Gods name. Satguru Kavir refused to acknowledge caste distinctions, or to recognize the authority of the six Hindu schools of philosophy; He held that religion without bhakti loving devotion for God was no religion at all, and that asceticism, fasting and alms giving had no value if unaccompanied by bhajan, meditation. Attribution & Supremacy of Naam, Naam as Unseen, Unwritten and Unspoken Sound Efficacy of Holy Repetition, Simran: The repetition of Gods name is superior to all other forms of worship. To sing Gods praises and remember Him is infinitely superior to all Hindu forms of devotion. Clearly this is the explanation of Hindu idolatry. If the image is merely a symbol what is the use of the ceremony. The ritual is all performed by the priests, and they also repeat the liturgy. The idolatry is dying, but sacrifice still goes on in some temple of “Kali.” Forms, Images, bells, candles, books, temples, and all holy symbols are very good, very helpful to the growing plant of spirituality, The Brahman trusts not to God but to the Veds and the Gayatri, and hence he shall be lost. Satguru Namdev Jio, Satguru Ruvdas Jio and Satguru Kabir Jio are reverenced by the world. IN OUR HEARTS AND MINDS, The Gigantic Global Master cannot be forgotten they will go on living in the deepest parts of your being for the simple reason that they never compromised their awareness for the expectations of the marketplace. And your awareness is your real being. There is no other value which is higher than awareness. Awareness is the seed of godliness in you.
