SAN DIEGO — Top aides to Mayor Kevin Faulconer and a San Diego Chargers representative sat down Wednesday for preliminary talks about a new stadium for the National Football League franchise. The get-together was the resumption of long-stalled discussions about fashioning a site and financing plan that would lead to a new stadium and ensure the Chargers don’t relocate. The talks took place between Chargers’ special counsel Mark Fabiani and Stephen Puetz, Faulconer’s chief of staff, and Jaymie Bradford, the mayor’s policy chief. While no major developments emerged, the meeting signals the city’s and Chargers’ desire to move stadium negotiations into a new phase. Fabiani had no comment after the morning session, deferring to a prepared statement issued by Faulconer’s office. “The mayor’s staff had an introductory meeting today with a Chargers representative,” the statement said. “It was an opportunity for both sides to meet each other in person, not the start of any formal negotiation. Mayor Faulconer looks forward to continuing a dialogue with the Chargers, but his top priority remains protecting San Diego taxpayers.”
