SAN JOSE, Antique — Student leaders from various high schools in Antique were informed about their rights as consumers during a recent seminar at the Antique Vocational School in Bugasong town. The seminar also taught the students about their responsibilities as consumers, said Engr. Lynna Joy Cardinal, information officer of the Department of Trade and Industry–Antique, which facilitated the activity. Product standards and fair trade laws applicable to the daily lives of consumers were also discussed. Fifteen schools participated in this recent seminar. Most of the participants, who included teachers, were from northern Antique. After the seminar, the student leaders agreed to launch a contest on consumer welfare and protection to be implemented by the Student Supreme Government. A similar consumer-awareness seminar was conducted in Pangpang National High School (NHS), Laua-an NHS, Aureliana NHS, Pis-anan NHS and the University of Antique. The activity was also in preparation for this year’s Consumer Welfare Month in October. The observance has the theme “Health Product: Quality, Efficacy, Safety and Transparency — Everybody’s Concern.” (PIA–Antique/PN)
