SANATANA DHARMA : Animal sacrifice Hinduism itself forbids - TopicsExpress

SANATANA DHARMA : Animal sacrifice Hinduism itself forbids animal sacrifice and indeed any meat processing, based on the doctrine of ahimsa.Although animal sacrifices practices as are still current are mostly associated with either community or with local tribal traditions. Mahabharata contains description of an Ashvamedha performed by king Uparichara Vasu, however, no animals were sacrificed. In the Vedas, there are mention of animal sacrifices, such as mantras for the sacrifice of a Goat in the Rig, the Horse sacrifice (Ashvamedha) in the Yajur, whilst in the Jyotistoma sacrifice three animal-sacrifices are performed, namely, Agnisomiya, Savaniya and Anubandhya. The Yajurveda is considered the Veda of sacrifices and rituals, and consists of a number of animal sacrifices, such as mantras and procedures for the sacrifices of a white goat to Vayu,a calf to Sarasvati, a speckled Ox to Savitr, a Bull to Indra, a castrated Ox to Varuna and so on. Although these rituals didnt focused on the killing of animal, and Vedas themselves defined them only for earlier age.Such rituals, including Ashvamedha are one of the prohibited rite for current age.
