SATYENDRA NATH BOSE (S. N. BOSE) PAPER OF 1924 The Indian - TopicsExpress

SATYENDRA NATH BOSE (S. N. BOSE) PAPER OF 1924 The Indian physicist whose name is now enshrined in physics via the particles called bosons, the most famous being the Higgs boson (topic of 2013 Physics Nobel Prize to Sir Peter Higgs), sent a paper he wrote, back in 1924, to Albert Einstein. I had known about this for many years but came across a copy of this famous 1924 paper today (on the internet) and read it. In this paper, Bose derives Plancks radiation law (published in 1900 and then in 1901) using new statistical arguments. The introduction given by Bose is fascinating. He first points out the flaws in the prior derviations of the law. The law can be written as the product of two quantities A and B. Bose points out that only the quantity B was derived using the new quantum physics of Planck. The quantity A has been deduced using classical physics. This presents a logical inconsistency. Then Bose shows that the entire product AB can derived using new statistical arguments. After reading this, I am thrilled because it makes it so much more easier now to extend the Planck-Einstein ideas, or Planck-Einstein-Bose ideas as I want to call it now to problems outside physics. Bose uses the formula we learn in elementary permutations and combinations. If there are N things of which N1 are identical, then we have N2 that are identical, then N3 that are identical with the total N = N1 + N2 + N3 + and so on, how many ways can combinations do we have. Planck uses a different formula (how many ways to have 3 scoops of icecream fof five flavors if all possibilities are allowed) and he is able to deduce only the factor B. But, Bose is able to deduce the entire product AB with his formula. The Bose method is actually easier to follow. It also led Einstein to propose the existence of a new state of matter called the Bose-Einstein Condensate, which was the subject of the 2001 Nobel Prize in Physics. Now it will be easier to understand the new type of quantum outside physics, IMHO. I am waiting for some new data this week (about Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerbergs net worth) before we can discuss this point. I already published a preliminary analysis based on data from Mar 1 to Mar 14.
