SCAM ALERT: Canyon County has emailed out a warning of a new scam hitting their jurisdiction. They received a complaint from a citizen stating a male called him identifying himself as a law enforcement officer named Lt. John Morton of Canyon County Sheriffs Department warrant division (they have no such officer). Lt. Morton informed the citizen that he/she had missed jury duty and he was calling to collect a payment of a $900 fine. He informed the citizen this would need to be a pre-paid card to make the payment with. The phone number the suspect used was 208-591-0806. The phone number was later called and a male with a slight southern accent stated he was Lt. John Morton and gave instructions to the caller on how to make payment (caller pretended to be a grandparent of a person owing money). When Morton was asked where to send payment, he hung up. The Court does not call people demanding payment for missing jury duty and do not require fees to be made with pre paid (untraceable) cards! Notify local authorities if you receive these types of calls.
