SCAM ALERT! PREFETCH - RUNDLL32.EXE I had a new one call today. The caller claimed to be calling from the technical support department or some computer company, concerned about a virus attack on my Windows based computer. He then set about talking me through running a prefetch inquiry (though thats not how he described it to me) with the obvious intention of convincing me that some of my normal OS processes were evidence of an infection. He clearly hoped that I was unfamiliar with the inner workings of my operating system. I suspect that his ultimate goal was either to convince or trick me into granting him remote access to my computer, or perhaps he just wanted to talk me through (unknowingly) downloading and installing some form of malware myself. Heres the bottom line. If someone calls you claiming to be any sort of technical support person and wants to talk you through poking around your computer, do yourself a favor and dont.
