SCAM WARNING: A new scam is going around on Craigslist, which involves rental homes. Homeowners and renters BEWARE! Scam artists are stealing information and pictures from websites such as Trulia and Zillow, then posting them in Craigslist. The story is almost always the same, a family who is out of the state relocating (he says he is a CONSTRUCTION ENG) wanting to rent the home out while they are away, etc. You wire them the money, they mail you the keys...but, of course, you never get the keys. They give you a phone number to call or text (Ive come to find that this is a throw away disposable phone that can not be traced) and they even email you a rental agreement!!! This is where it gets worse. To those unfortunate enough to have believed this, not only have you lost your money, but youve given away all your personal information, making your identity easily stolen. Below is a copy of the rental agreement: HERE IS THE RENTAL APPLICATION FORM The Landlord acknowledges the Confidentiality of this Document ! FULL CONTACT NAME? OCCUPATION? CURRENT RESIDENTIAL HOME ADDRESS? YOUR CELL PHONE NUMBER? YOUR HOME PHONE NUMBER? REASONS FOR LEAVING / RENT $? HOW LONG DO YOU WANT TO RENT THIS HOUSE? YOUR AGE & MARITAL STATUS? DO YOU HAVE A PET? DO YOU HAVE A CAR? HOW SOON DO YOU WANT TO RECEIVE THE KEY? HOW MANY PEOPLE SHALL RESIDE IN THE PREMISES? ANTICIPATED MOVE IN DATE? REFERENCE CONTACT NAME AND ADDRESS? DO YOU HAVE THE THE SECURITY DEPOSIT PAYMENT NOW? ONE COPY OF YOUR PASSPORT OR PHOTOGRAPHY? The scammer goes by many names, but mostly uses the alias Andre Tarkington. And ask you to wire the money to San Francisco, California 94102 ***NEVER WIRE MONEY TO ANYONE YOU DONT KNOW. YOU CAN RESEARCH RENTAL PROPERTY SEVERAL WAYS OR CONTACT US 24/7****
