“SEASON of mists and mellow fruitfulness! Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun; Conspiring with him how to load and bless, With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eaves run ..” John Keats descriptive poem captures autumn so well. The Clydeside is a lovely area of woodland, so beautiful in the sun shining through. As the seasons change and the clocks fall back on Sunday morning, we are reminded of God’s great promises and faithfulness, “While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night, Shall not cease.” [Genesis 8: 22]. The hymn says, “Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest, Sun, moon and stars in their courses above, Join with all nature in manifold witness, To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.” Our God is totally trustworthy over the passing seasons and years, as the wise man says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” [Proverbs 3: 5-6].
