SECONDARY EDUCATION IN NEW ZEALAND WHO ADMINISTERS NCEA? NCEA - TopicsExpress

SECONDARY EDUCATION IN NEW ZEALAND WHO ADMINISTERS NCEA? NCEA is administered by the NZ Qualifications Authority (NZQA). Students are given a unique National Student Number (NSN) which can be used to view information NZQA holds on each student about their NCEA results and Record of Achievement. This means that no matter what type of school a student attends, the quality of education will be of the same high quality as they are all overseen by NZQA. NCEA – HOW IT WORKS THE NCEA ASSESSMENT SYSTEM NCEA recognises and reports on actual achievement. These assessments measure how well the students meet certain standards: skill and knowledge to achieve in a subject. THREE ARE TWO TYPES OF STANDARDS: • Achievement Standards – which are NZ Curriculum based. Students are graded ‘achieved’, ‘merit’, or ‘excellence’. • Unit Standards – are competency based. They generally have only one level: ‘achieved’. Some may have ‘merit and excellence’. Each standard achieved gives a certain number of credits towards the certificate.
