SEEKING TIPS IN ST. PETERSBURG DOUBLE HOMICIDE St. Petersburg Police Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance to help identify the suspect responsible for the deaths of Paula Witthaus, a 54-year-old, white female and James Edward Rapp, a 67-year-old, white male. (The victims photos are shown below.) According to detectives, at 12:52 p.m. on January 28th, St. Petersburg Police were called by an acquaintance of the two victims, who had stopped by the house at 2840 17 Avenue North to check on them. According to investigators, the victims were killed within 48 hours of when they were found and the trauma has been described as particularly brutal. While investigators have not yet identified any potential suspects or motive for the murders at this time, they do not believe that this was a random act of violence. Anyone having information regarding that may assist investigators is asked to contact Crime Stoppers of Pinellas County at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477) or crimestoppersofpinellas.org.
