SEMINAR ORGANIZED FOR STD X STUDENTS Sri Guru Singh Sabha and Sewak Jatha Dadar organized, on Nov 24th at Gurudwara Dadar Seminar Hall, a special Orientation Session for Std X students (along with their parents) appearing for their exams in March 2014. The session was conducted by Ms. Shailaja Mulay, a highly qualified and an experienced professional in the field. (B.A (Entire Psychology), M.A. (English), M.A. (Counselling + Educational Psychology), M.Ed, Diploma in Educational Management, Diploma in Vocational Guidance, Career Masters Course. Assistant Head Mistress, St. Michael High School, Mahim, Worked as an Examiner, Moderator, Chief Moderator, Paper Setter, Ex-Member of Board of Studies, Best Teacher Award from Maharashtra State Government). The session was very interactive and the focus was on topics like Planning of Time / planning the portion / Paper pattern / Marks structure / Food diet tips / Do’s and dont’s / role of parents and other relevant aspects affecting the students overall performance. At the end, a power point presentation on ‘Stress Management’ was given by Child Counsellor, M.B.B.S., D.N.B. psychiatry, Dr. Darpan Kaur. She also elaborated on the need for setting up time for reciting Gurbani. The response to the overall session was overwhelming. The feedback forms filled by the students and the parents together, convey that the session has given the students the required confidence and direction to enable them to prepare Effectively for their exams and the ability to deal with stress. A point worth noting is that out of 40 + students attending the session with their parents, hardly 2 or 3 families were aware of and had seen the timetable for Std X exams that was put online in Jan 2013. This is an indication of the seriousness our parents and children show with regards to studies and career. We need to understand the importance of Education in today’s times and work towards it! Sabha and Jatha has already planned to hold similar sessions in the near future. This will also include a session immediately after the 10th exams on the Career options available to the students after Xth.
