SERVING CHRIST IN OTHERS “But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or speech but in deed and in truth” - I John 3:17-18b. The word of the Lord makes it clear that serving the Lord is not just about keeping religious ordinances - it is not about verbal confession of faith or ability to sing God’s praise. The fact remains that our level of faith is expressed not in our many utterances, but in our deed. Serving God is in ACTION. And there is no way to show our commitment to God except by the way we respond to one another’s needs. The parable of the Good Samaritan summarized the whole of our duties as servants of Christ (Luke 10). Our service to God is not measured by ordination, position in church or title, consistency in church services, confirmation, or year of membership in the church; financial commitment like tithing and paying endowments, etc. All these are good and indeed obligatory but, our service to God is measured by our disposition to other brethren, especially the needy. Exodus 22:25 - Take not interest, when you lend to the poor. Exodus 23:3,6 - Do not be partial to the poor nor pervert their justice. Exodus 23:11 - Give the excess of your income to the poor. Taking a critical look at the teachings of Christ, we will discover that the best way to serve Him is by serving others. If you want to be a leader, be the servant of others. If you want to inherit His kingdom, be kind to other people around, especially the little ones. Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report: if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, THINK ON THESE THINGS - Philip. 4:8.
