SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING For DAMAGING WIND, HEAVY RAIN and LARGE HAILSTONES FROM BOM QSCHW *************************************************************************** *** SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING *** *** For DAMAGING WIND, HEAVY RAIN and LARGE HAILSTONES *** *************************************************************************** The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning. For people in parts of the Gulf Country, Northwest, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast Forecast Districts. For people in parts of the Scenic Rim and Gold Coast Council Areas. Locations which may be affected include Bundaberg, Gladstone, Emerald, Clermont, Biloela and Blackwater. The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 7:20 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near the NSW border and the area south of the NSW border. These thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast. Issued at 7:18 pm Sunday, 25 January 2015. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds over the next several hours in parts of the Gulf Country and Northwest districts. Locations which may be affected include Cloncurry, Kamilaroi Station, Augustus Downs Station, Gregory Downs Station, Iffley and Lawn Hill. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia and Wide Bay and Burnett districts. Locations which may be affected include Bundaberg, Gladstone, Emerald, Clermont, Biloela and Blackwater. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones over the next several hours in parts of the Southeast Coast district. Locations which may be affected include Gold Coast and Coolangatta. A wind gust of 85 km/h was recorded earlier at Cloncurry. A wind gust of 94 km/h was recorded earlier at Casino in New South Wales. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 10:20 pm. If severe thunderstorms develop in the Southeast Queensland area (east of Dalby from Rainbow Beach to Stanthorpe), a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in this area. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureaus website at bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 219.
