SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH Issued by MetService at 04:38 am Sunday 25 August 2013 Valid until Midday Sunday 25 August 2013 This watch affects people in the following weather forecast districts: Auckland Great Barrier Island Coromandel Peninsula Waikato An active front is expected to move south over Auckland, Coromandel and northern Waikato this morning. There is a risk that significant convection and thunderstorms associated with the front could be severe, producing wind gusts stronger than 110 km/h and possibly small tornadoes. Wind gusts of this strength can cause some structural damage, including trees and power lines, and may make driving hazardous. If any tornados occur, they will only affect very localised areas.
