SEVERE WEATHER BULLETIN NUMBER THREE TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING: TROPICAL STORM LUIS (KALMAEGI) Issued at 5:00 p.m., Friday, 12 September 2014 LUIS has intensified into a Tropical Storm as it continues to move over the Philippine Sea. Location of Center: (as of 4:00 p.m.) 660 km East of Virac, Catanduanes Coordinates: 14.0°N, 130.9°E Strength: Maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph Movement: Forecast to move West Northwest at 26 kph. Forecast Positions/Outlook: Saturday afternoon: 290 km East Southeast of Casiguran, Aurora Sunday afternoon: 80 km North Northeast of Casiguran, Aurora Monday afternoon: 80 km West of Sinait, Ilocos Sur Public Storm Warning Signal PSWS Luzon Visayas Mindanao #1 (winds of 30 - 60 kph is expected in atleast 36 hours) Catanduanes None None Residents in low lying and mountainous areas under signal #1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Estimated rainfall amount is from 5 – 15 mm per hour (moderate - heavy) within the 400 km diameter of the Tropical Depression. Luis will enchance the Southwest Monsoon that will bring light to moderate rains and thunderstorms in Visayas and Mindanao. The public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 11 PM today.
