SEVERE WEATHER WARNING. ISSUED BY MetService AT 9:12 pm 31-Aug-2014 PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN FOR NORTHLAND AND THE COROMANDEL PENINSULA A front extending east from Northland is expected to move slowly south. A moist airmass with easterly gales and periods of heavy rain precedes this front. In the east of Northland, bursts of heavy rain until early Monday morning could bring a further 40 to 60mm on top of the rain that has already fallen. In addition, bursts of heavy rain are expected about the Coromandel Peninsula from this evening until around noon Monday, where 60 to 80mm may accumulate. People are advised that heavy rain can cause rivers to rise rapidly, with surface flooding possible in low lying areas. HEAVY RAIN WARNING AREA/S AFFECTED Northland FORECAST Bursts of heavy rain are expected to continue in the east from about the Bay of Islands southwards. In the 9 hours from 9pm Sunday to 6am Monday expect a further 40 to 60mm of rain on top of what has already fallen. Peak intensities of 10 to 15mm/hr.
