*** SEVERE WEATHER WARNING *** #weather #vicweather #vicstorms #storms *** FOR NORTHERN COUNTRY AND NORTH EAST *** *** PLEASE READ, SHARE & TAG *** The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning. If you are not sure which district you are in, please visit cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restrictions/find-your-fire-district/ which will tell you which district your Council/Shire is in. Severe Weather Warning IDV28000 Severe Weather Warning for heavy rain for people in the Northern Country and North East forecast districts Issued at 6:23 pm EST on Thursday 10 April 2014. Weather Situation A trough of low pressure over northern Victoria and will track eastwards tonight before forming a low pressure system near the southern New South Wales coast during Friday. The low will then move slowly away to the northeast on Saturday. Heavy rain which may lead to flash flooding is forecast for the Northern Country and North East forecast districts during Thursday evening. The heavy rain will contract to the North East district early Friday morning then ease later in the morning. The SES advises that rainfall run-off into waterways in recent fire affected areas may contain debris such as soil, ash, trees and rocks. People in fire affected areas should also be alert to the potential for landslide and debris on roads. Recent fire affected areas include; North East - Upper Ovens region through and beyond Harrietville, parts of the Upper Murray Catchment at Granya and Tallangatta South, Kings Creek in remote forested areas. The Severe Weather Warning for the Mallee forecast district has been cancelled but the situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary. Since 9am Thursday Yarrawonga has recorded 33mm and Rutherglen 30mm. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: Keep clear of fallen power lines. Dont drive, ride or walk through flood water. Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. Beware of fallen trees or debris on the road. For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500. The next warning will be issued by 11:00 pm EST Thursday. Remember, IF ITS FLOODED - FORGET IT!! Please take care on the roads and never shelter under trees in a storm. If you see debris on the road or require emergency assistance in floods and storms, please contact the Victorian SES on 132 500. For life threatening situations, please call triple zero (000).
