SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT MEETING | THURSDAY: A letter from Cllr. Eoghan OBrien & Senator Darragh OBrien regarding the proposed massive sewage treatment plant in Clonshaugh and the Public meeting in Bewleys Hotel, Clonshaugh this Thursday 17th April at 8pm. A Chara, Despite over 13,000 objections, Fingal County Council and the Department of the Environment are pushing ahead with their proposal to impose a massive sewage treatment plant in Clonshaugh with an outflow pipe at Portmarnock. As you will know Cllr. Eoghan OBrien and I, have and continue to vigorously oppose this project. Eoghan has held a number of very well attended public meetings in our area over the past number of months, helping to ensure that the residents of our area are informed of these plans. Greater Dublin Drainage are currently preparing the Environmental Impact Study which will be published in the coming weeks. We will of course call further meetings on its publication. It is our view that at some stage we may have to take our fight to the EU. The Baldoyle Estuary and the surrounding areas are considered by EU law as of immense environmental sensitivity and importance. The inner parts of the bay at Portmarnock are protected as a Special Area of Conservation, while the wetlands are covered by the EU habitats directive. Eoghan and I will fight this plant at every step of the way. Our efforts would be greatly strengthened if Dublin had a Member of the European Parliament committed to opposing the plant at EU level. For that reason, we have teamed up with Councillor Mary Fitzpatrick, who is running in the European Parliament elections this May. As a Northsider, Mary cares about this area and is committed to doing everything she can to help protect it. Eoghan, Mary and I have organised a public meeting in Bewleys Hotel Clonshaugh this Thursday 17th April at 8 pm, to discuss how public representatives and the local community can work together to convince the European authorities to stop this disastrous proposal. We would be delighted if you could attend on Thursday. Please pass this on anyone else you feel would be interested in coming along. Kind Regards, Cllr. Eoghan OBrien & Senator Darragh OBrien
