SHOCK AS 20 COWS STRUCK BY LIGHTNING WHILE UNDER KFS DETENTION IN KAPTAGAT FOREST. Shock engulfed Benon Forest station in the wider Kaptagat forest plantation in Elgeyo Marakwet County when lightning struck and killed 20 Cows which had been detained by forest warders within their station after being found illegally grazing within the government forest. The cows estimated to be worth over shs 300,000 were said to have been found illegally grazing within the Gazette forest by forest guards who were on patrol at the expansive forest Tuesday evening. the forest guards then drove to cows to their station to detain them until the owner comes to claim them. The Benon forest station manager James Lufwaya who talked to the press, said it rained through the night accompanied by loud thunderstorms and it was when they woke up in the morning that they were only shocked to find 20 cows dead and leaving another 15 alive adding that they left with no other alternative but to just report the matter to Kaptagat police station has the owner had not appeared at their offices to claim them. When the press arrived at the scene, the enclosed forest holding ground was littered with the Carcasses of the dead cows and villagers from the neighbouring community milling around speaking in low tones at the tragic turn of events. The villagers who were interviewed by the press expressed shock saying that that omen called for cultural intervention from Elders.
