SILENT MINORITIES; VISIBLE, BUT NOT HEARD: In Partnership with Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and Foundation for Human Rights Initiative (FHRI), we conducted a workshop to see how we can implement the Human Rights of Children of Parents sentenced to the Death Penalty. It was a coalition workshop with several human rights bodies where a panelists who included: Dr.Eric Awich (from Department of Social Work and Social Administration), Mr.Kyateka Mondo (from Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development), Dr. Sylvia Namubiru Mukasa (from Centre for Justice, Studies and Innovations) and Mr. Ssuubi Francis(from Wells of Hope Ministries). The Occasion was graced with guests like: Hon. Meddie Kaggwa, the Chairperson of Uganda Human Rights Commission, Dr. Birigai from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights; both who were among the Panelists and an Official from the Prisons. Among the highlights was the big turn-up of Dignitaries for example from the Sector of Justice at the workshop and the Testimonies from three of the Children from Wells of Hope Academy. It is amazing how people’s eyes were opened towards these silent and invisible minorities (Children with a Parent on Death Row). It is our prayer that the Government and all Sectors join us as we support these Children. We bless the Lord for all who have prayed and supported us to see that this workshop is held.
