SIMPLE........... Romans 5:17 says that righteousness is a gift. You can’t work for gifts, you can only receive them. You might say “Well, I’ve done this deed and I’ve done that righteous act.” The people who were told by Jesus to depart from Him, He never knew them, said the same thing (Mt. 7:22-23). My friend, do not try to earn right standing with God by your works. The Word says if you do, you frustrate the grace of God, and Jesus’ death was for nothing (Gal. 2:21); that Christ profits you nothing, He has become of no effect unto you, you are obligated to keep the whole law, and you have fallen from grace (Gal. 5:2-4); that you are ignorant of God’s righteousness (Rom. 10:3); and you will not be justified (Rom. 3:20-28; Gal. 2:16). Do you still want to try to earn your righteousness? I believe I’ll take the free gift.
