SIXTY YEARS AGO: Davy Crockett debuted on Disneyland on December 15, 1954. Shown in a series of five segments, it was considered TVs first miniseries. It starred Fess Parker as American western hero Davy Crockett and was immensely popular. The show spawned Crockett paraphernalia, including the famous coonskin cap. Four versions of the theme song shot up the charts early in 1955, including one by Fess himself, but the only one to reach #1 was recorded by television soap opera star Bill Hayes (pictured):
