SJ is a 7 year old boy from Manhattan diagnosed with Prader Willi Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Verbal Apraxia, Auditory Processing Disorder, Fine Motor/Graphomotor Deficits, Gross Motor Deficits, Decreased Attention Skills, and Sensory Integration Disorder. As a result of his unique challenges, SJ has significant delays in cognition, speech, fine and gross motor development, social/emotional development, and rate of acquisition of activities of daily living. He requires an intensive 1:1 therapeutic educational placement and program with services and interventions that are tailored to meet his individual needs. SJ’s parents contacted Lewis Johs Special Education Group for help navigating the IEP and impartial hearing process. Attorneys Eileen Libutti, Jennifer Frankola, and Margaret Cowley guided SJ’s parents through his Turning 5 IEP meeting, school search, and impartial hearing. As a result of their consistent, detail oriented guidance and representation the NYCDOE now funds SJ’s program and placement at a small, private therapeutic special education school where he receives full time 1:1 Applied Behavioral Analysis and related services tailored to meet his needs. SJ has made progress in this program and we wish him the best of luck in the future. lewisjohs/archives/1076
