SLIDE FIRE MORNING UPDATE: The fire is now at nearly 11,000 acres and is at 5% containment. Growth slowed in some areas of the western rim of Oak Creek Canyon where thinning treatments have been conducted. Overnight, crews conducted burnout operations and focused heavily on the area of the Arizona Game and Fish Hatchery and the switchbacks on 89A. That remains the trigger point for any potential evacuations of neighborhoods south of Flagstaff. Oak Creek Canyon residents remain on mandatory evacuation orders. Residents of Kachina Village and Forest Highlands remain on pre-evacuation notice. The Red Cross emergency shelter at Sinagua Middle School in Flagstaff took in 7 evacuees last night. The Coconino Humane Association - across the street from the middle school - is still accepting pets affected by the fire. The Coconino County Board of Supervisors has banned all open fires on County public and private land until further notice. The Coconino National Forest remains at Stage I fire restrictions.
