SLIDE FOR LIFE To climb so high just to fly through the sky. We all stand in a row awaiting our part in this aerial show. An impending fear draws near on my descending. This shrouded doom, looms in my cranial room. My bold attitude was destined for the lower latitude; throw in a thrill with tattered hopes of my skill, which I am destined to fill. This visual correlation gave bud to my nurturing hesitation. With bated anticipation, I contract a chill through my questionable will. Standing in this line where the next turn is mine. First up in the show as instructors prepared me to go, and there’s nowhere to run when you’re under the military gun. I surprisingly climbed this sixty foot wooden tower, with a wondrous will of inner power. Stopping at the top holding tightly, don’t want to drop. I anxiously await my fate, for the instructor below will signal this testosterone driven show. I feel a bit more stable grabbing hold of that overhead cable. Now my vision is clear, as time draws oh so near. Just to see the river below where the deep waters flow, knowing my life hangs on this cable, I must remain capably stable. The flag is raised as I leap off and into first phase. I explode into a downward flight, looking like some periled kite. The air that I tread ruffles hair upon my head. Then it was there in mid-air that I lost that childish scare. The red flag is my final snag; for once it’s lowered I am forced to move forward. My body is thrust into the water, flipping around in a cognitive panic, feeling as though I have fallen under the S.S. Titanic. Quickly I swam to the top after successfully negotiating their orchestrated drop. All eyes were on me and what my fate was to be, as they all looked to see. Rising from the murky depths in an uppity style, I surfaced baring a grin, saying only, “Who’s the next to come in?”
