SO, Calgary Police Service wants to contract me to help with an intervention program. I am AMAZED at how progressive this police service is and in fact, contrary to a lot of propaganda against police - MANY of them are very, very respectful of Islam and just want to do right with all communities. If you dont believe this: go ahead and find any kind of untoward statement by the Chief, Rick Hansen against Islam and Muslims. You wont. Such a super nice guy, truly. Heard from the Los Angeles Police (shout out to the LAPD Liaison Unit) who talked about how great the cooperation is with Muslim communities there. He rightfully acknowledged that many, many cases of extremism would not even have been picked up if the community had not alerted them. I spoke also with the Department of Homeland Security where the CVE (countering violent extremism) coordinator comes from a civil liberties background - not police, not intel, not military. These people stand up and really DEFEND the Muslim community in the U.S. - the idea that they are all out to get us or that they are targeting Islam - is completely false. YES you have Muslim-haters in police, intel and military but you know what? They dont move up the chain with that attitude. The UK PREVENT coordinator from Association of Chiefs of Police (ACPO) did a fantastic job in explaining how respectful they are to the Muslim communities and how the vast majority of Muslims DO in fact work very closely with public safety agencies. He spoke of how the police deliberately do NOT arrest and prosecute but rather, channel individuals and divert them by offering all sorts of personal assistance, including employment help, educational support and other aspects to enhance quality of life. *** Once again, I am reminded that the notion of Muslim dont enough against terrorism is outright BULLSHIT. *** Off to dinner and conversation ... theres my update fer ya. :)
