SO MUCH MORE THAN FOOD, FLEECE OR WORKER. From the moment Zebedee (orphan lamb post Sept 14th) showed a special character (unlike his aloof sister), his fate was sealed. Whether he knew he had to be something special or not to avoid being freezer filler (of course he didnt, but it is fun to pretend! ;) ), he applied himself to being......well, special. Having an art therapist rellie (who incidentally had requested any orphaned lambs- convenient huh?) the animals are used as an integral part of holiday workshops. Their very presence and interactions are crucial in supporting the developmental progress of the attending kids in life skills and confidence. These are generally not just any sort of animal, but have the innate patience and gentleness to encourage positive connections with the kids. Or respect in the case of the gobblers!. Kids and animals- the relationships are always something special. What a sad world it would be if animal righters (righters NOT welfarists!) had their way, and animals could not be used in such a fashion? And as an opinionated footnote (after reading too many such comments), before describing or lumping together all anti livestock producers as being bloody hippies or greenies, take a little time to consider that some who work slightly outside the parameters of societal normality also have great respect for what animals do and provide. Id like to think there is a touch of hippie or greenie in all livestock producers. ;) Happy to discuss further.
